Level 2 Diploma Veterinary Nursing Assistant

The Veterinary Nursing Assistant Diploma will give you the underpinning knowledge and basic nursing skills you need to support qualified veterinary nurses and veterinary surgeons in a clinical setting.

The Veterinary Nursing Assistant Diploma is a part time course taught over one year. It includes sessions at our training center in Monmouth, formal live webinar lessons every two weeks and blended distance learning. As well as the formal teaching, these days allow you to access one-to-one support from our experienced tutors.

Alongside teaching theory, the course has a strong focus on practical skills. Therefore, you will need to be either employed or volunteering in a veterinary practice throughout the course so you can complete the necessary clinical hours. You will also need to complete an online Central Skills Log (CSL) to record your clinical experience. Please note: the practice does not need to be an RCVS accredited training practice.

The course is assessed by written assessments and one summative examination. You will need to pass all assessments to achieve your diploma.
This qualification, along with level 2 qualifications in maths and English (e.g. GCSE Grade A*-C/4-9 or Level 2 Functional Skills) will allow you to apply for the Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing. To undertake this diploma, you will need to be employed in an approved veterinary training practice.
